High-Tech Tools Used in an Industry Shaped by Tradition

Gold Tone Music Group was looking to make a new premium quality tailpiece for their banjos. Devise Designs worked to develop an innovative design for three different product variations.

What We Did

Initial Concept Development

We started this project with sketching to think through some of the potential features and shapes for the product. This facilitated conversations with the client to help determine the product concept. We then translated the selected design into a 3D computer model.

FEA Stress Analysis

Because the tailpiece is the anchor that holds the strings tight, there is a lot of tension that stresses this part. We used Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to simulate the forces to optimize the part for strength and manufacturability. We were able to simulate material options and geometries before approving the design for manufacturing.

Engineering Documentation

Thorough engineering documentation was provided for the manufacturer to understand the design and accurately create the geometries for all three of the assembly variations.
